Preparations on to amend the education act

Kathmandu, August 7: A preparation has been made to amend the education act after Ministry of Finance agreed to implement the agreements reached between Ministry of Education and protesting temporary teachers.

According to Dr Hari Lamsal, spokesperson at the Education Ministry, preparations were underway to materialize the previous agreements reached on June 23 which ended the hunger strike following a four-point deal with the Ministry of Education.

The talks held at the Ministry in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Gopal Man Shrestha and representatives of Nepal Teachers Federation, concluded with an agreement to give a chance to sit for exams to all temporary teachers for permanence and provide remuneration if they failed in the exams.

Earlier, the Education Act Eight Amendment (2072 BS) had stated that those seeking financial benefits should have lodged application if they were not willing to attend the internal examination.
But, as per the agreement today, those failing in the exams too would be provided with health care service besides fixed by the Act with the amendment and Finance Ministry is now positive to talk on the issues. RSS
