Kathmandu, August 10: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has urged the Far Western University (FSU) to design curriculum so as to promote the originality and identity of the far-west region.

In his address to the sixth Senate of the University here today, the Prime Minister urged the University to ensure the reflection of far west language, culture and indigenousness in its curriculum and contents.  He took the time to say that time had come for the University to prioritize the expansion of its scope.

"The act of granting the affiliation (for constituent campuses) should fall under the University priority list," he suggested.  The PM, who is also the Chancellor of the university, wished the University based in the ever backward area to come up with its plan for self development.  Also speaking on the occasion, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Education, Gopalman Shrestha informed the Senate that the government was positive toward allocating required additional budget to the University.

The University that was established in August 2010 at Punarbas of Kanchanpur as per the 'multi-university' concept currently runs Bachelor and Master's degrees classes under the faculties of management, humanities, education and social sciences and bachelor-level classes in Engineering and Science faculties.  Around 400 students will be participating in the University's first convocation ceremony to be held in November.  On the occasion, University Vice Chancellor Prof Bhushan Shrestha said the process to establish 15 constituent campuses last fiscal year was halted in the absence of quota allocation.
