Four hundred forty one thousand one hundred forty one people have applied for various employee positions at the local levels. Public Service Commission (PSC) spokesman Kiran Raj Sharma said this many applicants have submitted their applications until the deadline. PSC had set Tuesday as the deadline to apply for the posts.
According to him, 434 thousand 764 have applied towards the open category, 103 thousand 567 towards the women quota, 43 thousand 326 towards the indigenous nationalities quota, 24thousand 90 towards Madhesi quota, three thousand 91 towards dalit quota, 146 towards the disabled quota and 116 towards the backward area quota.
PSC had on May 29 called for applications to 9,161 positions in the 515 local levels. Spokesman Sharma said revenue of Rs 140 million 411 thousand 150 has been collected from the registration of the applications.
PSC says the written test for filling up the vacant posts in the local levels would be conducted in the third week of July.
Indigenous nationalities and other groups had filed a case at the Supreme Court challenging the constitutionality of the PSC's vacancy announcement and sought a stay order on the grounds that it was not according to the constitution's spirit of the proportional inclusion.
However, the apex court after conducting hearing on the case last Monday ordered the PSC to go ahead with the tests.
