CPN-UML aligned professors  opened the lock at the Tribhuvan University after an agreement with the vice-chancellor on 18th of September.

Dr Yadav Lamichhane, president, Nepal University Progressive Teachers’ Association, said they decided to open the lock after VC Prof Tritha Khaniya made a written commitment to consult them while taking academic, administrative and other decisions.

NUPTA had padlocked the university on August 24 demanding appointment of VCs in universities from their association.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sushil Koirala had appointed four VCs close to Nepali Congress in Tribhuvan University, Purbanchal University, Far-Western University, Nepal Sanskrit University and a VC close to UCPN-Maoist in Agriculture and Forestry University.

He said that they will be gradually opening the lock at other universities. However, Progressive Professors Association has not yet opened the lock at TU and other three universities. Uday Tiwari, president, PPA, said the they would not open the locks until the universities invite them for talks.
