Madhya Paschim Nursing Campus from Nepal won this year’s Regional Enterprise Challenge presenting their innovative idea of Road safety campaign in society with the aim to reduce injury and save life. British Council Director handed over a Laptop each to the winning team Sharmila Thapa, Rajani Shahi, Asmita Geri, Sabita Subedi, and Sujan Shrestha and their teacher Bimala Pyakurel on 6 April 2011 at the British Council.
Teacher Bimala Pyakurel says “We are proud to win. It’s not only our or Madhya Paschim Nursing Campus’s success but success of Nepal. We are implementing our work from April and seek support and help from all Nepalese.”

Sharmila Thapa says “We are very proud of our success, now we felt more responsible for our project. We are really inspired to do something new to change road safety in Nepalgunj and will start our project soon.”
The British Council’s Regional Enterprise Award competition 2011 has started with six teams from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Nepal, and Uzbekistan taking part. The competition was held over the internet and was open for public voting through http://www.britishcouncil.org/learning-skills-for-employability-enterprise-virtual-challenge-2011 which was linked from the British Council Nepal’s website (http://www.britishcouncil.org/nepal.htm ). Based on the results of public voting and judge’s scores, Nepal and Pakistan team were declared as joint winners for this year.
This was the second Virtual Enterprise Challenge competition held in all participating countries of the Central and South Asia region. Designed for young people to their highlight excellence in enterprise, innovation and technology, each of the winning teams is now taking part in a Virtual Regional Enterprise Challenge. They presented their ideas for the regional final in the form of short videos which were available at the British Council website for public voting.
The Enterprise Award Challenge is a part of the British Council’s Skills for Employability programme and involves students aged 16-21 years of age. Through their ideas for finding solutions to a set challenge, students are encouraged to be creative, think outside the box and develop their skills for team working, problem solving, communication, financial literacy and leadership.
British Council Director, Dr Robert Monro says “Winning this prize is testimony to the good ideas and hard work of the team from Madhya Paschim Nursing Campus I hope it will encourage them and others to develop more entrepreneurial ideas in the future, so that they can make a positive contribution to their communities and help Nepal to become a safer and more prosperous country.”
