Nepal failed to utilize education aid

Nepal has failed to utilise human resources trained for providing special education to differently-abled students.

Kangnam University (KNU), a Korean university, has been sending Special Education Assistants for Nepal since January 2001 for one-year special education course under one-year Bachelor of Education (BEd) programme of the Tribhuvan University (TU).

It established TU Special Education Department under the Education Faculty and hired some staff for one-year academic programme designed by JNU and TU.

In February 2004, KNU launched a TU-KNU BEd programme for Special Needs Education. Till date, 99 graduates have taken the course. Peter S K Kim, KNU-TU coordinator, said they have been working hard to produce trained human resources to teach physically-disabled children, but neither students are interested nor the government has any policy on special education.
