NEB Adopts Single Secondary Level Registration at Grade Nine

National Examination Board (NEB) eliminates dual registration for the secondary level and adopts single registration at grade nine.

Dr. Mahashram Sharma, Chairman of the National Examination Board, stated that a committee had been formed to conduct a technical study to fill out the registration form for the secondary level only at Grade 9. He said, "After the committee's recommendation, the students will only fill out the registration form in class 9. After that, there is no need to fill out the registration form in class 11. The same registration will work till class 12."

The National Examination Board published a notice last week extending the deadline for filling out the class 11 registration form until the end of Kartik. Dr. Sharma, Chairman of the Board, stated that since the formal decision is yet to be taken, the class 11 students will have to fill out the registration form this time, and the class 11 students will not have to fill it out from 2080 onwards.

Since the government classified grades 9 through 12 as secondary levels, it was inappropriate to fill out the registration form twice within the same level. The Class 10 Examination Control Office submitted a proposal to the board a few years ago. Nonetheless, the board did not want to make an 'unpleasant' decision that would result in a loss of income and rejected the proposal outright. The board will now lose at least 20 crore rupees due to the decision to fill out the registration form only once at the secondary level, but students will benefit greatly.

Previously, the registration form for class 9 had been filled out in the month of Kartik. As the board is conducting a technical study on this, it has not been disclosed yet. President Dr. Sharma said, "It may be delayed for some time because we are going to make a new decision."

School Code

The Education and Human Resource Development Center and the Examination Control Office have been using two different codes for Classes 10 and 12. The code will now be the same for both. Chairman of the Board, Dr. Mahashram Sharma, said they would maintain uniformity in the school code.

SEE Center

The Secondary Education Examination (SEE) will not be entirely handled by the state government. The board's chairman, Dr. Sharma, asserted that since the Education Act does not include a clause that would transfer all responsibility to the state government, they have been operating within the limits of the law. He stated, "The board is responsible for preparing the question papers and verifying the results."
