National Vigilance Centre asked HSEB for tampering students marks

The National Vigilance Centre has sought clarification from Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB) regarding irregularities in the board, especially during Grade XII exams.

The anti-graft body said it had recently sought details of answer sheet examiners and names of the colleges of students who allegedly had their grade increased and decreased. It has also demanded that the board apprise the centre on legal provisions for increasing and decreasing students’ grades.

“Some of the Board authorities signed the register leaving a blank space where they had to fill in the students’ grades after validating the answer sheets forwarded by examiners,” said the National Vigilance Centre in a statement.

Likewise, NVC has sought clarification as to why the board made public the results of Grade XII even when 384 answer sheets of the English paper were sealed by the anti-corruption unit’s staffers.

NVC had raided HSEB on August 30 and sealed 384 answer sheets. But on September 2, HSEB published the results of Management and Education faculty without consulting the National Vigilance Centre.

The centre had found evidence that students from some colleges had their grades doubled while the grades of students of other colleges were reduced without any reason.

Likewise, the centre has sought clarification from the Ministry of Education on why the secretary at the ministry was still holding the position of chairperson in Budhanilkantha School Management Committee. “There is no such provision in the Education Act,” it said.
