Minister Pokharel for consensus on medical education bill

Kathmandu, July 9 (RSS): Minister for Education, Science and Technology Girirajmani Pokharel has said that a new consensus was needed on the bill that the government is attempting to unveil for reforms in the medical education and the entire health care sector. 

Responding to the queries of lawmakers in today's meeting of the House of Representatives, Minister Pokharel said that the bill would be introduced based on the Mathema Commission's report for medical education and health care reforms. 
He informed the House that the task force has recommended for the formation of a new commission and the bill has envisaged the same adding that the commission itself would organize the medical education sector. 

The issue regarding the establishment of medical college in Kathmandu valley for a decade would be determined by the commission while mentioning that the ordinance introduced by the former government has come in force. 

Minister Pokharel, however, said that the entire contents of the ordinance could not be incorporated in the new bill and urged agitating Prof Dr Govinda KC to end the hunger strike, while arguing that all should respect the sovereign parliament. 
Likewise, NC lawmaker Dilendra Prasad Badu presented a motion on public importance demanding to table the bill for reforms in medical education and health care sector. 

A total of 49 lawmakers took part in the motion of Badu. The parliament shall meet next at 1:00 pm on Thursday.
