Minister Girirajmani Pokhrel sees need of revolution in science and technology



Kathmandu, Dec 12 (RSS): Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Girirajmani Pokhrel, has insisted on the need of a revolution in te country’s science and technology sector for the achievement of national prosperity. 

In his address to a programme organised by the Ministry and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) here today, he was of the view that a goal for prosperity would be achievable if science and technology could be connected to every aspect of life. 

The programme was based on the theme of peaceful and safe use of atomic science and technology to achieve goals of national development. The science and technology minister said a bill related to the safe use of nuclear technology would be presented in the upcoming winter session of the parliament, hoping for cooperation from all quarters to pass the document. 

Also speaking on the occasion, Minister of State for Health and Population, Dr Surendra Kumar Yadav expressed his hope that health sector would record further improvements once an act relating to the safe and peaceful use of atomic and radioactive substances would be introduced and implemented. 

IAEA coordinator Sota Kamisama made a presentation on the global use of nuclear technology and highlighted the works being carried out by the IAEA. Nepal has been a member party to the Treaty on Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) in 1970 since its commencement and in 2008 it took the IAEA membership.
