Medical colleges agree to return overcharged fees

Kathmandu, March 21 (RSS): Private medical colleges have been finally agreed to return the amount they additionally charged from students and give students deprived of filling up the exam form earlier second chance till tomorrow to complete the process. 

The issues infuriated students unions, who last Tuesday padlocked the offices of Tribhuvan University (TU) vice chancellor and Institute of Medicine (IoM)’s dean's office, accusing them of doing nothing to address the students’ concern. 

A joint meeting held among the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology; TU vice chancellor Dr Tirtharaj Khaniya; representatives of Gandaki Medical College and KIST Medical College, and the agitating students took place at the Singha Durbar ended with these agreements. With this, two students unions earlier agitating--All Nepal National Free Students Union and the All Nepal Independent Students Union (Revolutionary)--have been convinced to remove the padlocks, ANNFSU secretary RC Lamichhane said. 

Minister for Education, Science and Technology Giriraj Mani Pokhrel, secretary Khagaraj Baral, TU vice chancellor Khaniya, college representatives and student unions’ representatives sat for the talks.  However, the case earlier filed by affected students who suffered psychological fear from the colleges for their move would not be withdrawn as it was a legal matter, Lamichhane said.
