Kathmandu, Sept 8 (RSS): The Kathmandu University School of Education in collaboration with Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich) is organizing a two-day international conference on technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in Dhulikhel, Kavre, on September 11-12.

As many as 200 TVET scholars, researchers and practitioners from six continents of the globe are participating in the conference, carrying the main theme 'TVET for Employment, Income, and Job Quality', reads a press release issued by Kathmandu University School of Education Department today.

It is to note that Sakchamata Project supported by European Union under theCouncil for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) and Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FNCCI) are also lending their support in organizing the conference.

Though it is believed that education leads to employability and enhancement of the quality of life of people, mismatch between the skills and knowledge that are taught and transmitted and are in need, is leaving millions of youth jobless across the globe. Bridging this gap is possible with Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) which has been proved fruitful in many countries. However, the sector has yet to elevate its performance so as to address the needs in developing countries.

Against the backdrop, the international conference aims at interfacing distinguished TVET practitioners, policy makers, researchers, employer (industry), and employee (youth) for the enhancement of the sector, stated the release.

Key aspects of TVET governance, its institutional and legal frameworks which are instrumental in charting out the future course of Nepal in this sector feature significantly during the event, said Prof Dr Mahesh Nath Parajuli, Dean, Kathmandu University School of Education.

A total of 82 research papers would be presented under various themes such as policy, planning and practices; institutions and systems; governance and power sharing; financing and fund sharing; cost-benefit analysis; teaching and learning quality; equity, and relevance; national and international case studies; work, education, and training; occupations and occupational areas; development and TVET; sociology of TVET; inclusion in TVET and some integrated themes, according to the press release.

The key note speakers comprise academicians and TVET leaders from national and international arena including Prof. Tanka Nath Sharma, former Dean, Kathmandu University; and Noel Ginsburg, Founder and CEO, Intertech Plastics.
