Institutional School Teacher’s Union Nepal (ISTU-Nepal), an umbrella organisation of school teachers in institutional schools today demanded that the government ensure their representation in the Eighth Amendment to the Education Act 1971.

Issuing a press statement here today, ISTU-Nepal today said it is an umbrella organisation of more than 200,000 teaching and non-teaching staff of institutional schools, but the government was not paying attention to them.

It said, “Thus, ISTU-Nepal wants the government to recognise the organisation in the amended education act.”

The statement further condemned the news about participation of institutional school teachers in the recently formed Nepal Teachers’ Federation (NTF), an umbrella organisation of various teachers’ unions.

Saying that “ISTU-Nepal is the authorised organisation of institutional school teachers and is not a part of NTF, the statement said news about participation of ISTU-Nepal in NTF is condemnable.”
