During his visit to Dhanusha District on 6 April 2013, Deputy Chief of Mission, Jaideep Mazumdar, Embassy of India, Kathmandu laid the foundation stone for the construction of a three storied school building for Shree Laxminiya Janata Higher Secondary School under Nepal- India Economic Cooperation Programme. The project will be implemented by the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction (DUDBC),Division Office,Janakpurdham, Dhanusha.
Established as a Primary School in 1956 and subsequently upgraded to Higher Secondary School level in 2009, Shree Laxminiya Janata Higher Secondary is situated at Kumhrauda (Bagewa) VDC in Dhanusha District. Its existing infrastructure is dilapidated and inadequate to accommodate all the students. The new building being constructed with Indian assistance of NRs. 39.57 million will provide better facilities to over 1200 students, about 44% of whom are girls. The upgraded facility would create an improved environment for learning and contribute to the development of the education in the district.
In addition to this school, seven projects in Dhanusha District have already been completed with Indian assistance of NRs. 166.6 million, while work is ongoing on eleven projects at a cost of NRs. 386.30 million including school buildings, nursmg campus, roads & bridges, electrification of villages and installation of shallow tube wells. India has also gifted eleven ambulances and two school buses for use in the District.
India is also constructing three roads totaling 62.2 km in the Dhanusha District under Phase-I of the ongoing Terai Roads Project in Nepal. The Project envisages the construction of 19 links/postal roads covering a total length of 605 kms in the Terai Districts with Indian financial assistance totaling approximately NRs. 11 billion. Similarly, India is constructing a rail link covering a length of 68 kms from Jayangar (India) to Bardibas (Nepal), as part of the rail links at 5 locations on the India-Nepal border involving a total estimated cost of NRs. 21.23 billion.
In his address, Deputy Chief of Mission, underlined the importance of the Nepal-India Economic Cooperation Programme as a cornerstone of the development partnership between the two countries. He expressed the hope that the vanous projects being implemented under the programme will help the people of Nepal in their strides towards peace and prosperity.
Recognizing the importance of accelerating growth in Nepal, India remains committed to rendering all possible assistance in that direction. The India - Nepal Economic Programme has an outlay of over NRs. 65 billion with more than 425 large and small development projects completed or currently being implemented in almost all the districts of Nepal. These development projects mainly in the sectors of education, health and infrastructure development have been undertaken in response to local needs, and in partnership with the Government of Nepal.
