Inclusion of New Curriculum only after Evaluation

Kathmandu: The National course which is prepared for class 11 and 12 will be brought in implementation only after one year of testing/evaluation. Curriculum Development Center will be implementing the new course from coming educational session, 2076. After the confusion and debate over the new course, National Courses and Assessment Council has decided to only implement the course currently for testing.  Academics, Mathematics/Science Experts, Private Educational Institutions and Book Publishers had opposed the decision to implement new curriculum this year. 

Experts say that mathematics and science have not be included as per necessary Further, there was the pressure from private school operators and book publishers to implement the course only after preparation. Additionally, Education experts also disapproved of the decision of implementing the course in haste.
Member secretary of the council, Krishna Prasad Kapri said, "We will apply new curriculum in some school as a sample and will be implemented only after one year of proper discussion and analysis. Before this, the center had prepared to apply the new curriculum of class 11 from the starting of the month Shrawan of this year. The process of making courses according to the subject is still in progress. He also said, "We will be preparing the curriculum of all subjects, their textbooks, and other educational materials within a year, we will go to full implementation from the coming year." 

As per the new decision of the council, the new academic session of class 11 will be going to start from the month of Shrawan and the decision is made to follow the previous curriculum.  In the meeting, Minister of Education, Giriraj Mani Pokharel, advised discussing with the experts about the curriculum to be implemented as a test for a year. Curriculum/course is shared topic for all. “It should only be implemented after reasonable discussion”, he said. 'Dissatisfaction should also be considered’. The minister claimed that the confusion had been created saying that mathematics and science are being removed. Mr. Pokharel stressed that while implementing the curriculum, there should also be a discussion on the local level as well.  Executive Director of Curriculum Development Center, Mr. Krishna Prasad Kapri said that there will be the provision made to study mathematics for all. In the present curriculum of 11and 12, there is no science and mathematics as compulsory. Those who are involved in creating the new course complaint that some teachers and students have raised the issue of mathematics in order to save their jobs.

‘3 lakh students enroll in grade 11. Amongst them, only a few students study Science.’ One of the members of council said,’ Everyone should not take the burden of mathematics and science.’   The National course which is prepared for class 11 and 12 will be brought in implementation only after one year trial and testing.
