The 4th national general convention of Nepal Community Higher Secondary School Teachers’ Union is all set to begin from tomorrow.
According to Prahlad Gautam, general secretary, NCHSSTU, the 4th national general convention is being held after a five-year hiatus. He said around 500 representatives from 60 districts were expected participate in the convention, which will conclude by electing a new leadership.
The convention is expected to form a 71-member central committee for the next three years.
“Currently, we have a 48-member central committee, including nominated members. We have proposed forming a 71-member central committee under the federal structure from now onwards. The issue will be thoroughly discussed during the convention.”
He further said various issues of higher secondary level teachers will be discussed during the convention. He said the amended Education Act had merged higher secondary level into school education and thus there was a need to change the name of the organisation too.
“The amended Education Act has not talked much about management of higher secondary level teachers thus the convention will draw the attention of the government towards the issue,” he said.
The convention will further discuss ways to uplift the status of all kinds of higher secondary level teachers.
