Lalitpur, Feb 2 (RSS): Speakers at a programme have underscored the need of continuing the food for education programme, which has been providing mid day meal to the school children from poor families.
The programme is launched with the financial assistance of World Food Programme, and Education Ministry.
During a stakeholders' sharing meeting of the programme organized today, Joint Secretary at the Ministry Baikuntha Aryal said the programme begun by keeping in centre the students from poor and backward communities was found effective, so it would be continued in a more systematic way.
Deputy Director of the programme, Bishnu Bhandari, said the programme has helped boost quality education and made students and parents aware of health.
Chief of Education Section at WFP, Mamata Gurung, shared that efforts were on to prepare a long term strategy to make the programme more systematic and result-oriented.
The programme is being run in Doti, Achham, Bajura, Dadeldhura, Bajhang, Baitadi, Darchula, Dailekh, Jajarkot and Rukum districts.
Under the programme, the students get the mid day meal with nutritious contents. It has helped increase school enrollment, and reduce malnutrition and drop out.
