Kathmandu, June 20: Experts have stressed the need to improve learning outcomes of students..

Speaking at the interaction organised here today, educationist Bidhya Nath Koirala said the government needed to improve learning outcomes of students instead of merely focusing on increasing enrolment rate. He said learning outcomes of students were very poor and the focus should be on making education practical and employment-oriented. .

“Neither the government nor schools have paid any attention to improve the quality of education,” he said, adding that the support of everyone was necessary to bring reforms in the country's education system..

Likewise, educationist Gangaram Gautam said the quality of education in schools and universities had deteriorated due to teachers' involvement in politics. He also said that students' learning outcomes were poor as teachers had been employing the same teaching methodology they used 30 years ago. .

“Teachers need to adopt new teaching methodologies as per the necessity of time. Earlier, teachers used blackboards, now they use PowerPoint to make presentations. Nevertheless, the techniques teachers have been using in our country hasn't changed much, due to which students' learning outcomes have not improved,” he said..

Suryabinayak Municipality Deputy Mayor Juna Basnet said students' learning outcomes could be improved only when teachers took their profession seriously. “We have been trying to make teachers more responsible. We have also introduced e-attendance system to ensure that teachers do not remain absent,” he said..
