With increased globalization, the education system of Nepal has also expanded. The most studied and happening subjects at present is Bachelor of Information Management (BIM).

Bachelor of Information Management (BIM)  degree is an undergraduate academic degree which extends over 8 semesters (4 academic years). Four years of study in the comprehensive syllabus helps a BIM graduate to get straight entry into the Master Degree program in any of the recognized universities worldwide.

The BIM program is designed to equip graduates with the skills and attributes required to become efficient and effective IT professionals to match up with the fast-paced world of today.

“The main aim of the BIM program is to develop socially responsive and result-oriented IT professionals,” said Bishwa Raj Bajracharya, coordinator of BIM at Prime College  at Naya Bazaar in Kathmandu.

He further added that the course develops the skills of students and lets them understand the trends of software development and database management so that they can analyze information systems and consequently manage the information corpus of the organization. Adding to that, BIM also provides professional education to students with the blend of information technology and managerial skills, and prepares students to proceed onto the post-graduate level of study in IT.

“Demand for IT professionals is extensively growing .Therefore, the Faculty of Management (FOM) at the Tribhuvan University has developed its BIM program to accommodate the needs of this trend,” Bajracharya added.

With the completion of the BIM program, students will be exposed to a wide variety and choices of employment opportunities and possibilities of further degrees.

“BIM program provides students with diverse future prospects for advance studies, along with rewarding employment opportunities,” opined Bajracharya and added, “BIM graduates can find jobs in almost every work arena as software engineers, programmers, or analysts, system designers, network managers, database managers, and trainers or instructors.”

Bajracharya even added that students have a misconception that BIM is just a core IT program; but it is the fusion of 60% of information technology and 40% of management courses.

BIM provides students with an understanding of the principles and operations of business, and the importance of the computer as a management tool. It does so through planning, control, and decision-making activities of the organization. So the students of BIM program will have knowledge of design, development, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems, particularly software applications and computer hardware.

Thus, as a whole, the course provides professional training to students by combining Information Technology with managerial expertise.

The Prime College at Naya Bazaar incorporates the BIM program, and students can contact the college for more information.
