Education Minister Ganga Lal Tuladhar on Friday gave an ultimatum to all political parties to submit names for the post of Vice Chancellors (VC) for seven different universities including Tribhuvan University (TU) and Nepal Sanskrit University, which have been fallen vacant since a few months.
Speaking at a programme here today, Minister Tuladhar, a CPN-UML leader who is also chancellor of universities also warned parties that if they failed to give the names of their candidates for the post of VC, he would himself appoint the capable and visionary academicians as VCs the next week as per the rights given to him by the Education Act.
He said that the TU day was approaching and many other activities had been halted due to the lack of VCs in the universities and therefore their appointments should be done as soon as possible.
“Though I tried very hard to bring capable persons with new vision to lead the universities, I could not do so because I was criticised from all quarters,” he said.
He also stated that there was a need of a High-Level Monitoring and Inspection Commission to monitor and manage the existing problems in education sector.
Meanwhile, representatives from Guardians Association of Nepal, Higher Secondary Schools Association of Nepal and others urged the government to bring new act and policies to address all kinds of existing problems in education sector.
