Curriculum to be developed on cooperative education

International Co-operatives Alliance, Asia and Pacific have taken initiation for the implementation of curriculum on co-operative education at school level and higher studies in Nepal. This information was shared in an International Seminar on Curriculum Development for Cooperative Education organized by the National Cooperative Board here on Tuesday.

The International Seminar on Cooperative Curriculum Development in Nepal supported by ICA-EU partnership aims to build knowledge and capacity of Nepalese stakeholders on the pedagogies for cooperative curriculum development through exchange of knowledge between ICA members in the region. 

On the occasion, Secretary at the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Surya Prasad Gautam said it was imperative that the experts working in the cooperatives sector acquire knowledge on various aspects of cooperatives since it was the main basis for the country's development.

According to him, there are 34,700 cooperatives in the country. In the seminar, experts from Nepal and various countries spoke on different aspects of cooperative education, stressing on the need of promoting it as it enabled people towards entrepreneurship, employment and take up responsibilities. 

They also highlighted that the cooperative education was very different from the formal education and spoke of the need of promoting it in Nepal for buttressing the economy. It contributes to the national economy by producing able human resources, they stressed. 

People and experts associated with the cooperatives sector from Nepal, Japan, India, China, Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore participated in the seminar. Professors and students from Tribhuvan University and Kathmandu University also participated in the discussions.
