Classes have been adversely affected due to teachers’ absenteeism. Locals say the classes were adversely affected because of the head teacher Kari Sah’s alcoholism. It is said Sah drinks alcohol from early morning and stays away from duty.
“Although he comes to the school, an inebriated Sah sleeps in one corner,” locals charged.
Source person Bhagawan Babu Sah at Kalyanpur Municipality, said the head teacher’s irresponsible behaviour had plunged the school into a mess. “I have often met Sah in drunken state,” Bhagawan Babu said, adding that, “I repeatedly sought clarification from him, but he didn’t improve his behaviour. There is nothing I can do to him,” he said.
Municipality level education committee coordinator RajesworYadav, said he found the school closed when he went there for monitoring. Yadav said he had directed the education department to halt employees’ salary after locals complained that the school was shut on a regular basis.
The school has a head teacher, two teachers and a facilitator of Child Development Centre.
BindaMandal, a guardian, bemoaned that lack of regular classes had deprived children of education. “We do not have access to powerful people. We had voiced our concerns to the municipality authorities, however, they stayed mum. Our children spend their time playing at home,” Mandal added.
The school with 60 students has been running classes up to Grade V. Many children have quit studies for want of regular classes.
Kalyanpur Municipality administrative officer Badri Narayan Yadav said he would take stock of the situation and take action immediately.
