Lalitpur, June 2 (RSS): A Chinese NGO, China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA), handed over a 10-roomed school building for the Mahendra Adarsha Vidyashram at Satdobato in Lalitpur today.
The school’s building was damaged by the Gorkha Earthquake on April 25, 2015. It is one of the 8,000 schools in the country that were damaged by the 7.6 magnitude earthquake.
CFPA had provided Rs 29 million for the construction of the building, said Country Director of CFPA for Nepal, Zou Zhiquiang, and Principal of the School Krishna Dutta Joshi in the handover ceremony that marked the Children Day in China.
Safa Sunaulo Nepal’s Secretary-General Rakesh Hamal shared that the students of this community schools were bereft of environment conducive for learning for lack of a building.
On the occasion, school management committee’s Chairperson and member of the House of Representative Pampha Bhusal expressed her confidence that the school where most of the children were from disadvantaged families would be able to provide quality education with the new building.
She said, "We have leased out the 12 ropanis of land in front of the school which fetches us Rs 60,000 annually. We manage our recurring costs from this source.”
Under-Secretary at Department of Education in Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Mahendra Bahadur Chhetri, underscored the need of enhancing the quality of school.
Last year CFPV had provided 300 bags and 18 computers to the school, shared CFPA’s Country Director Zou.
