Resource Persons from 50 districts staged a protest in Bhaktapur today against the government’s decision to transfer them. Around 100 RPs from various parts of the country staged an hour long protest in front of the Department of Education.

A ministerial level meeting held on July 4 had decided to direct the five regional education directorates to transfer the RPs across the country for the improvement of quality of education in districts.

Narendra Bhattarai, president, School Resource Person Society, said they were forced to stage the protest as the decision taken by government regarding their transfers was against the Education Act and Rules and Directives for Resource Person Management.

The agitating RPs burnt the copy of the decision before DoE today as part of their protest.

Bhattarai said transfers should be made after identifying their status — whether they are education officials or civil servants.

He stated that the education regulations states that RPs are an integral part of education system and are treated equal to school teachers. “If RPs are to be transferred, they should have the permission from the school management committees they are leaving and SMCs they are joining,” he said. “The government’s decision is applicable only to civil servants. If we are civil servants, we should get services and facilities on a par with them.
