National Youth Conference on Climate Change is a common platform for youth and children of age group from 14 to 29 years representing educational institutions, organizations or groups working or interested to work on climate change and environmental issues.
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon stressed the importance of youth participation against climate change, calling them “agents of change”. Children and young people are concerned with the increasing threat posed by rising global carbon emissions and the changing climate. Many are already experiencing the impacts of the changing global environment in their communities.
Not only do young people have a right and a need to tackle climate change, they also have much to contribute. As they live and play in their communities they often gain unique insights into the local environment, its strengths, weaknesses, and the ways in which it is changing. In addition, young people are often creative and open-minded in their problem solving: they have energy, commitment and initiative to take action to reduce the impact of climate change and to prepare to face emergencies.
To address this, Nepalese Youth for Climate Action together with Clean Energy Nepal, Plan Nepal, Unicef, World Vision and Save the Children has come up with idea of National Youth Conference on Climate Change with involvement of youth and children.
