University Campus (UC) Kirtipur to become WiFi enabled

The central campus of Tribhuvan University, the university campus, is likely to become WiFi enabled, allowing students to access the internet anywhere on its premises in Kirtipur.

The University Campus (UC) is located at Kirtipur with 31 Central Departments from Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Education (FoE), Faculty of Management (FoM) , and Institute of Science and Technology (IoST).

University campus is spread over 3,758 ropanies (188.23 hectares) and students will have free access to the internet on the university premises round the clock.

Prof Ridish K Pokharel, chief, Planning Division, TU, today said if all goes as planned, students will have free access to the internet within a month.

“We are going to install WiFi routers in various places within the TU premises very soon,” he said. The estimated cost of providing free internet accessibility on the TU premises in Kirtipur is Rs 1.6 million.

Prof Pokharel said the TU is also mulling to discourage use of paper in office correspondence by encouraging e-administration and promoting e-governance.

“As a long term strategy, we will create e-mail ID for students, employees and institutions under TU and connect departments/ campuses through networking,” he said, adding, “Though it sounds ambitious, we will start works on the project very soon.”

He stated that the varsity would charge students a nominal free for internet accessibility and e-library during admission.

He stated that the TU is a world class university with a mission to contribute to society by producing capable human resources and conducting high-quality research on issues of national and international significance.

“The only goal of TU is to establish itself as a center of excellence in education and research in the South Asia region,” he stressed.

University Campus is one of the largest and the most attractive campuses in Nepal with modern teaching/learning and research facilities, residence halls, faculty quarters, stadium, health Center, and the golden Jubilee garden. Recent developments include a girls’ hostel, a sport complex, a student club, and international student’s hostel, and an international guest house.

Currently, there are more than 10,000 students ,700 faculties, and about 450 administrative and utility staff.
