Tribhuvan University loses 2 lakha students in a year

Student enrolment in Tribhuvan University (TU), the oldest varsity in the country, has decreased by more than 36 percent in a year.

A report presented at the TU senate meeting on Sunday shows that the student number in the university's constituent and affiliated colleges declined by 199,096 in fiscal year 2013/14 in comparison to the previous year. 

The total enrolment, which was 604,437 in 2012/13, has decreased to 405,341. 

Both the constituent and affiliated colleges have seen significant decline in the number of students during the period.

The report shows the enrolment in the affiliated colleges declined to 273,349 from 331,000 while the number of students in the constituent colleges decreased to 148,141 from 273,349 during the same period.
