Tribhuvan University has hiked remuneration for part time teachers in its constituent campuses. Part time teacher are paid on the basis of periods. Chandra Mani Poudel, registrar, Tribhuvan University today said that the university had hiked the period-based payment of part time teachers. There are around 1,400 part time teachers in 60 constituent campuses.
Tribhuvan University doubled the remuneration of part time teachers last week. Earlier, part time TU teachers used to get Rs 120 per period. Now Tribhuvan University has increased it to Rs 240 per period.
Poudel said, “Part time teachers used to get Rs 102 after deducting 15 per cent tax from the remuneration of Rs 120 per period. Now they will get Rs 240 per period with effect from the beginning of the current fiscal. He said it was a shame that Tribhuvan University professors got Rs 31,000 per month while part time teachers got only Rs 120 per period, therefore Tribhuvan University decided to hike their remuneration.
Earlier in July, Tribhuvan University Part Time Teachers had staged various protest programmes against Tribhuvan University officials. They had even locked Tribhuvan University Rector Prof Guna Nidhi Neupane for a few hours for not sending a circular to the constituent campuses to begin the process of appointing part time teachers on contract basis as per the agreement reached in the past.
Narayan Koirala, vice president, Part Time Teachers Struggle Committee said they had also heard of payment hike but had not yet received an official letter, therefore they could not say anything about it.
