A six-day-long ‘Leadership Development Training for Teacher Leaders’ kicked off in Bhaktapur today.

The training is the first of its kind in the country. The National Centre for Educational Development (NCED) had designed the training and provided trainers.

Laxmi Ram Poudel, executive director, NCED, said the training was meant to teach the leaders of teachers’ bodies about their responsibility in a classroom and their accountability to students.

Representatives from teachers unions, organisations and other wings of teachers affiliated to various political parties are participating in the training programme.

“Of the total 25 trainees, nine are from NCED’s regional training centres, 15 from various teachers’ bodies and one was absent this time,” informed Poudel.

He said if teachers’ leaders were more committed towards enhancing the quality of education, it could bring positive change in the academic sector.

He further said the training would strengthen relations among various teacher organisations.

According to Poudel, the system of training and curriculum would be amended after getting feedback from the current training.
