Students arrested on the charge of vandalizing Purbanchal University's VC Quarter

Nepal police have arrested 31 students on the charge of vandalizing the quarters of Purbanchal University´s (PU) Vice-Chancellor Maheshwar Shrestha on Friday.  The agitating students had hurled stones at the quarters breaking window glasses.

A clash was ensued between the police and the agitating students in front of VC Quarter at Buddha Chowk, Biratnagar.  Students are protesting to end the corruption in Purbanchal University and is  demanding improved infrastructure on that varsity.

 “The clash broke out immediately after we tried to stop the students from vandalizing the quarters,” said superintendent of Police Bishwaraj Pokharel. Students affiliated to more than 16 political parties had participated in the protest.

“Only a few of the arrested students will face legal action, while the rest would be freed after interrogation,” said Pokharel.

Students have condemned the arrest and have padlocked the examination department and the library of Purbanchal university.
