Following direction from the National Information Commission to allow School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examinees to see their answer sheets, the Office of the Controller of Examinations (OCE) has submitted a procedure for the same to the Ministry of Education for final approval.
On August 24, the NIC directed the OCE to allow interested students to see their answer sheets. In response to an application filed by SLC graduate Ashesh Neupane on July 19 this year, the NIC directed the OCE to ensure his right to information and let him see his answer sheets of SLC exam-2011.
Surya Prasad Gautam, examination controller, OCE, said they had prepared the procedures and sent the same to the authority for a final nod.
He said, “After the SLC board chaired by the education secretary passed the procedure following a long discussion with stakeholders, we submitted it to Minister for Local Development Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, who is also looking after the education ministry, on October 12.”
Gautam said the ministry would approve the procedures in a few days if there were no major changes. “Students can see their answer sheets once the ministry approves the procedures,” he said.
The examinees of SLC examinations-2012 will benefit if the ministry okays the procedures. A high-level source at the OCE said they had proposed Rs 1,000 to see answer sheet of a subject.
Tribhuvan University students had also moved the NIC for the same purpose. After TU refused to show answer sheets on security grounds, the Supreme Court had issued a verdict in favour of the students.
