Director General of the Department of Education Dr. Laba Dev Awasthi has said that the SLC results of this year were not satisfactory and need reviewing.
For the poor results, he pointed out at the shortcomings of teachers who have not given adequate priority on teaching.
Speaking at a function organized by Canvass International College, he said that the teachers should devote themselves on teaching. It is necessary to make a review of the poor results, he said.
The commitment from the political parties is necessary for the successful implementation of school sector reforms programme, Awasthi said.
If the quality of education is to improve, the government should allocate 25 percent of the national budget to the educating sector, he said.
Education expert Dr. Mana Prasad Wagle said that lack of appropriate political leadership and willpower of the employees are to be blamed for the failure of different education programmes launched by the government.
Awasthi said that the declaration of ‘school as the peace zone’ was not being implemented as it was declared without making necessary mechanism to monitor it.
Minister for Youth and Sports Hit Man Tamang expressed his confidence that the declaration to make schools peace zone will be implemented.
Tamang stressed the need of regular political dialogue to make school reforms programme a success.
