The three District Education Offices (DEOs) in the Valley will be surveying the sale and content of textbooks in private schools from tomorrow.
The move comes a day after the Department of Education sent circulars to all DEOs in the country and regional education directorates to monitor institutional schools in relation to the sale and contents of their textbooks.
Two days ago, the Ministry of Education (MoE) had directed the DOE to check the contents of textbooks, reasoning that they were irrelevant in the Nepali context.
The MoE circular followed complaints from guardians that schools were selling textbooks at exorbitant prices on their premises.
Against this backdrop, the three DEOs in the Valley today handed over a school survey letter to their respective School Inspectors (SI) and Resource Persons (RP) to begin monitoring.
Narayan Kaji Kashithawa, section officer, Institutional Schools Section, said they would send a 14-member team comprising SIs and RPs to visit Valley schools from tomorrow to find irregularities.
Lalitpur DEO said it had begun probing some schools. Similarly, Bhaktapur DEO said 10 SIs and RPs would monitor private schools and submit its report in a week.
Valley DEOs said they would seek clarification and take action if need be.
