SC questions 'men only' VCs in universities

KATHMANDU: Supreme Court today gave the Office of the Prime Minister, Council of Ministers, the ministries of Education, Law and Women and Children 15 days to clarify why women professors were not nominated for the post of vice-chancellor at various universities.

A single bench of Justice Baidhya Nath Upadhayay was responding to a writ petition filed by professors Radha Devi Sharma Chalise and Chirikshobha Tamrakar challenging the appointment of only male VCs in universities.

Claiming that women’s rights guaranteed in the Interim Constitution were violated in appointing VCs. The court has also summoned government authorities to attend a hearing on November 6.
