The Department of Education (DoE) will be maintaining students' attendance record in community schools from the new academic year with the aim of gauging the major causes behind absenteeism and dropouts in schools. The DoE decision comes at a time when the government has been running the pilot phase of School Health and Nutrition programme in 224 schools of Syangja and Sindhupalchowk in association with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Data shows around half the number of students enrolled in grade one never complete primary education.,
