The recent raid by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) and action against as many as two dozen top level office-bearers, including the vice-chancellor, who faced suspension over graft charge, have spelled disaster for Pokhara University.

After the suspension of varsity vice-chancellor Khagendra Prasad Bhattarai, along with the registrar, the controller of examinations and deans of all faculties, almost all administrative works have been disrupted, while students are worried about their future.

“Everything from the salary and perks of teachers and other staff to the day-to-day work has been affected as the varsity budget and policy and programmes are yet to be passed,” said acting deputy-administrator Roshan Pande, adding routine works of examination result publication, scholarship distribution and the like have also been affected.

“It’s natural for the students like us to be worried as the top officials of the varsity have been booked,” said Ramesh Subedi, a student.

Meanwhile, the anti-graft body has already lodged a chargesheet at the Special Court against the persons in question, claiming massive irregularities in infrastructure construction, teachers’ appointment and other fields.
