​NSU submits memo to Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan University

Nepal Student Union, which is affiliated to the Nepali Congress, today submitted a 13-point memorandum to Vice-chancellor of Tribhuvan University Prof Tirtha Raj Khaniya.

A delegation of students led by NSU President Ranjit Karna, who is also a member of the Parliament, had met the VC at his office today.

According to UP Lamichhane, spokesperson, NSU, representatives of student union met the VC to draw his attention towards irregularities, anomalies and malpractices in the education sector.

“Since NSU is the largest student union, it is our responsibility to raise voice against malpractices in the education sector. Thus, we held talks with the VC to draw his attention towards the issues,” he said.

NSU has demanded that the Free Student Union elections be held at the earliest. It has also demanded scholarships for poor, hardworking and quake-affected students in various courses such as BSc CSIT, M.Sc CSIT and Food Technology.

During the meeting with VC, NSU representatives also urged the VC to implement semester system in BBS and other streams. Similarly, they also demanded that affiliations be granted only to colleges with proper infrastructures, provision of compulsory bank loan to students of medicine, engineering and BBA, distribution of petroleum products such as LP gas, kerosene on the basis of students’ identity card and supply of fuel to the academic institutions to run school buses.

Meanwhile, addressing students’ concerns, Prof Khaniya assured that he would work towards addressing the demands of the students. “I have only been recently appointed to the post so I am currently studying what needs to be done.

I want to improve the quality of education in TU so I need support from all, including student unions.”
