The Ministry of Education (MoE) has decided to take stern action against the colleges running academic programmes in affiliation with foreign institutions without the government’s prior approval.

Issuing a public notice on Wednesday, the ministry warned the colleges not to admit students in programmes that MoE has not endorsed.

Among 67 colleges operating in the country under affiliation with universities from India, the United Kingdom, the United States, Switzerland, Singapore and Australia, 33 are running bachelor’s and master’s programmes while the rest are conducting A-level programmes.

The government can even scrap the colleges’ registration if they are found to have repeatedly breached legal provisions. “If any college is found to be admitting students or issuing notices for admission by ignoring this notice, the MoE will take action as per the law,” read a notice published in Kantipur daily.

The ministry asked students and guardians to check whether the programme a particular college is offering is approved by the government.
