Likhu's top official plans on spending income on Dalit students

The top government official here in the Likhu rural municipality has announced plans to spend his monthly salary and perks for the education of the Dalit students coming from poor economic background.


Municipality's Chairman, Dhurav Shrestha, who won the recent first round of the local level polls, said he will spend the money under different topics as educational development, scholarships, stationery and uniform.

"I have made this announcement to make the Dalit students active in education and upgrade the level of their awareness," Shrestha said, adding "I have made plans to run programmes of providing uniform, stationery and meals till the secondary level, and provide scholarships for pursuit of higher education."

The Dalit population in the rural municipality makes up about five percent of the total population. RSS
