Kathmandu Metropolitan City in coordination with Nepal Cable TV Association and the Ministry of Population and Environment has started removing unmanaged overhead cables of all cable television distributors and internet service providers in the city.

Unmanaged overhead cables of various cable television distributors and internet service providers have increased visual pollution in the city.

According to Min Bahadur Thapa, chief at Programme Section of KMC and coordinator of wire management team, a number of cable and internet service providers’ unmanaged overhead cables has been removed in Teku.

“Unmanaged overhead cables at different places has marred the beauty of the city and also created difficulty for pedestrians,” he said, adding that they took the decision to remove such cables a long time ago, but could not complete the task due to various reasons.

He also said utility poles on the streets were overloaded with the cables of various internet and cable service providers and they had still kept on adding cables without any information to KMC.

“Moreover, if any cable comes off the utility poles, it disturbs vehicular movement and often creates hurdle for pedestrians to walk on footpaths,” Thapa added.
