The officials  of the executive council of Tribhuvan University and Institute of Medicine have been in the process of increasing the fees of Post Graduate Level courses of medicine.

Government has fixed the Master’s level of medicine fees as 23 lacs five months ago.  According to the law, the fees of the courses is determined by the executive council of the college and monitored by the respective university.

However, the TU and IOM officials are preparing for hiking up the fees against the decision of the government.

Govinda KC had launched the hunger srike from time and again to make the necessary changes in the medical field. The fees of 23 lacs was determined by the agreement between the government and Dr.Govinda KC on 01 Kartik, 2074 B.S. It was mentioned in the agreement that all other medical like that of Kathmandu University should take 23 lacs fees for the MD course and also provide the necessary allowances. Ministry of Education had conducted a letter correspondence with the Vice-chancellor of TU about the implementation of fees.

IOM has already taken the MD entrance examination  and is in the process of counselling program. However, since the seats and fees have not been fixed the counselling program has been affected. Dean of IOM Dr. Jagadish Agrawal, told that the fees determination is in the process.

Up until last year the medical colleges charged up-to 1 crore  since the medical course fees were not fixed. MD was offered by only IOM, National college of Birgunj and Universal College of Bhairawaha. From this session, Medical College of Nepal Army, Chitwan Medical college, Gandaki and Kist Medical College have also got the permission to run MD program.
