HSEB told to waive exam and registration fees of scholarship awardee students

A committee formed to recommend measures to be followed while awarding scholarships to students has suggested that the Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB) waive the registration and exam fees for all students selected for scholarship quota made mandatory.

It has also asked the government not to charge the education service tax from the higher secondary schools (HSS). The committee was formed to find a permanent solution for the scholarship row going on for a long time.

All Nepal National Independent Student Union-Revolutionary had resorted to protest against the higher secondary schools operating across the country after they were found charging up to Rs 30,000 on various pretexts to the students who were enrolled under full scholarship. The committee, however, has suggested for discontinuing scholarship scheme in grade 12 if students who were enrolled under scholarship quota do not pass the final examination of grade 11.
