'Govt planning to uplift standard of community schools'

Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has condemned the demonstration staged by various academic institutions and organisations against the tax levied on education sector. He has thus urged to suggest other alternatives if they are not satisfied with the tax system.

Speaking at the national convention of the Higher Secondary School Union Nepal in the Capital on Friday, Prime Minister Bhattarai said, “The government has been planning to uplift the standard of the community schools with the education tax.”

He said, “Community schools lack buildings, blackboards, toilets, among other basic facilities, he questioned, “how can student study geometry and other subjects without blackboard?”

The PM said the government has been trying to manage the education sector by imposing tax. He said the standard of education sector will be uplifted with the tax paid by the general public. “It is the responsibility of the government and the society to uplift community schools,” Bhattarai said.
