Nepalgunj, Aug 28: The elephant calf has been chosen to be the mascot for the 8th edition of the National Games to be organized at Nepalgunj in next year December. The meeting of the 8th National Games Preparation Secretariat held on presence of Minister for Youth and Sports Rajendra Kumar KC in Nepalgunj on Monday took the decision to this effect.
The national sports event is estimated to be held at the cost Rs 350 million and Rs 700 million is expected to be spent for the construction of physical infrastructures, according to National Sports Council (NSC) Member-Secretary, Keshav Kumar Bista.
Present at the meeting presided over by NSC Treasure's Surendra Hamal were office-bearers of NSC, Nepal Olympic Committee Treasurer Ratan Kumar Tondon, Chief District Officer of Banke Ramesh Kumar KC, local people's representatives, political parties leaders as well as the office-bearers of the security agencies among others.
Preparations were underway to host the Games in various other districts besides Nepalgunj in Banke district such as Bardia, Surkhet and Dang, said NSC member-secretary Bista.
Addressing the meeting, Minister KC pledged for the timely release of the budget for the event.
Minister KC also urged one and all concerned to be serious about the timely completion of the construction of the physical infrastructures.
On the occasion, KC made on-site visits of the cricket pitch in Kohalpur, shooting range, swimming pool and weightlifting academy being constructed in the Stadium in Nepalgunj.
Regional Sports Development Committee Chair Bhim Oli and Vice-Chair Narendra Thapa briefed Minister KC about the progress made on the construction of physical infrastructures in view of the 8th National Games. RSS
