Senior orthopaedic surgeon of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) Dr Govinda KC launched a fast-unto-death on Monday demanding various reforms in Nepal’s medical education sector.
He launched the strike by organising a press meet at the TUTH. It is his 11th hunger strike in recent years.
One of the major demands Dr KC has put forth this time is an Integrated Medical Education Act be made by integrating his suggestions on the report prepared by a panel led by Kedar Bhakta Mathema.
He also demanded that the Tribhuvan University give the Institute of Medicine back its rights on determining fees and deciding affiliations.
Meanwhile, KC says he will not disturb services at the TUTH and teaching-learning activities at the IoM.
