The cabinet today decided to keep intact all the District Education Offices until the government forms the District Education Coordination Unit.
Education sector was expected to face problems due to the Local Level Governance Act 2017, according to which all the DEOs need to hand over their ‘property, liability and budget' to the local levels by April 11.
With this decision, the DEOs will now continue their regular task. According to the constitution of Nepal and the federal governance system, the responsibility of operating and managing basic and secondary education now falls on the local government. But due to lack of clear ideas, many local levels are still reluctant to take the responsibility.
