In a first, the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT), the government body tasked with providing technical and vocational education nationwide to produce human resources required in the field of vocational and technical education, has prepared curriculum for diploma in journalism, a three-year programme.
Currently, journalism is taught in Plus-Two Colleges affiliated to the Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB) and in various universities such as the Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu University and the Purbanchal University.
Chandra Bhakta Nakarmi, chief of the Curriculum Division, said the curriculum is the result of consultations with 12 journalism experts from various universities and other stakeholders.
“We plan to begin journalism classes within a year,” he said. “Currently, talks are on for the selection of affiliates interested in teaching these courses.” CTEVT plans to fix fees for the programme through discussions later on.
