CIAA files graft case against former District Education Officer

A corruption case was filed at the Special Court against Sarlahi District’s former acting district education officer Hemanta Kumar Singh.

Along with Singh, Lalita Yadav and Jaya Narayan Yadav also have been prosecuted for their involvement in misusing government’s Rs 1.6 million by allocating the fund to Bhadsar Community Primary School in Bhadsar VDC-4 in Sarlahi. The school has been found to be non-existent. 

Lalita Yadav was said to be the chairman of the management committee and Jaya Narayan Yadav headmaster of the school that did not exist. 

The anti-graft body has sought up to two and a half years in jail and a fine of Rs 1.5 million and confiscation of same amount of money from the accused as per Section 3(1) and 3 (1)(D) and (E) of the Corruption Prevention Act, 2002. 

The anti-graft body stated that with the Yadav duo in cahoots with the acting district education officer had shown the school in papers and got the government fund issued under different heads between fiscal years 2009-10 and 2013-14 and had embezzled the money.
