About

The University of Nepal (UoN) will be an autonomous world–class institution whose graduates will be well prepared to meet existing and future challenges, improve their own lives and serve the people of Nepal and the world. The UoN seeks to instill a culture of excellence among its students, faculty members, administrators and all other stakeholders. It will be a student-centered institution of higher learning that serves the nation, taking into consideration the interests of its students, faculty, and other related constituencies. The university will be accessible to students from all sectors of the Nepali society and elsewhere.

The UoN will prepare graduates who can meet current needs and future challenges, and who will be leaders in their communities and country. They will be equipped to grapple not only with technical and factual challenges, but also with ethical, cultural and moral issues. They will possess cognitive skills that foster innovation, creativity, independent and critical thinking, and evidence–based analysis. They will be able to collaborate effectively with others and to communicate well orally and in writing They will understand research, i.e., be able to use systematic investigation in order to discover facts, analyze them and reach conclusions and have a lifetime love of learning.

These goals will be achieved by establishing a university that features undergraduate programs in a range of disciplines based on the philosophy of liberal education, i.e., one that is student-centered, offers a broad-based curriculum for every student, provides for specialization, and emphasizes independent thinking. The UoN will also have graduate programs and will promote interdisciplinary and holistic research, teaching, and learning. It will be governed in accordance with the democratic and pluralistic goals of the nation.
