Bachelor of Development Studies (BDEVS) is one of the most  interesting subjects in social sciences. It covers various components of economics, Sociology ,population, spatial planning, gender, and governance, which help to analyze different aspects of development.

This is a four year course and spreads over eight semesters. However, students can complete the courses within eight years. BDEVS course constitutes 129 credits consisting thematic areas (63 credits); auxiliary area (36 credits); methodsarea (12 credits); practical area (6 credits); and optional practical/ thematic area (12 credits).

This course was launched in 2010 with an aim to produce the primary professionals for development and social engineering. BDEVS program provides methods and techniques to analyze various problems of society through the teachings of theories and models, and the practical approaches.

BDEVS aims to prepare human resources for overall development of the society. The program produces development and social experts to solve the social problems of national and sub-national levels (communities, municipalities, and regions). It teaches the tools and techniques related to economic growth, social and human development, and overall prosperity.

Objectives of the Programs 

The Bachelor of arts in development studies (BDevS) program has been designed to

  1. Develop the academic skills and attitudes necessary to comprehend and evaluate the concepts of social and economic development
  2. Assist students to solve various problems in the society by means of practical approaches using models and innovative solutions.
  3. Develop the ability to review, consolidate, extend, and apply the knowledge and techniques to real situations; and
  4. Impart students the principles and practices, challenges, and opportunities of development for making the society prosperous and advance.

Eligibility

Eligibility for Admission

For Grade 12 Graduates till 2078 BS

Pass Grade 12 examiantion with a minimum CGPA 1.8 and achieve a minimum of D+ grade in every subjects in Grade 11 and 12.

For Grade 12 Graduates from 2079 BS

Pass Grade 12 examiantion with a minimum CGPA 1.8 and achieve a minimum of D grade in every subjects in Grade 11 and 12.

Applicants are selected from a merit list of entrance examination conducted by the School of Development and Social Engineering for the constituent programme and separately by individual colleges for affiliated programmes.

Admission Criteria

For the time being Pokhara University scholarship (administered by Pokhara University Scholarship Rules 2065) funded by the University Grant Commission is provided for 20 per cent students of each intake in the constituent programme and five per cent in affiliated programmes. 

The scholarships Quota is divided as

  1. Pokhara University School of Development and Social Engineering, Lekhnath, Kaski: 20%
  2. Camad College: 5%

Application Procedure for  (BDEVS) Program

Candidates applying for BDEVS program need to submit the application form along with their copy of academic certificates and transcript within the given deadlines. Students must attend in the written test conducted by the College on pre-specified dates. Once students are successful in Admission Test, they will be invited for Personal Interviews. The admission committee considers a candidate’s potential for success in the College. Camad College reserves all rights regarding admissions decisions, and the decisions one made by the College will be final. All successful candidates are informed about the admission in time.Finally, candidates need to visit administration office for his/her admission along with already prescribed first installment of the program.

  • Copies of School Leaving Certificate & Character Certificate

  • Copy of +2 or intermediate or equivalent certificates

  • Copy of Provision Certificate

Job Prospects

Career Prospects:Bachelor of arts in development studies (BDevS) graduates have an open opportunities in various fields of development and social work.

There is a huge demand for mid level development professionals and development workers in various development fields like International Development Agencies including UN agencies, International Non-Governmental Organisations (INGOs), Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Community Based Organisations (CBOs) and civil societies.

There is a huge demand of development professionals in government funded development projects also. In addition there is a high prospects to pursue further studies within and outside the country.
